The Presidential Preference Primary Election is a partisan Republican and Democratic Primary only, therefore ONLY voters who are registered Republican or Democrat will be eligible to vote in the March election.

February 16, 2016 

The book closing date is the statewide deadline to register to vote or make any party changes. The book closing date for the Presidential Preference Primary Election is February 16, 2016. If you need to register to vote or would like to make a party change you must complete a voter registration form and submit it to the elections office on of before this book closing date.

Once the registration books close, only updates to the voter's name, address and signature shall be permitted.


What is a Presidential Preference Primary Election?

An election held to elect one person in each party to be that party's nomination for the office of President of the United States. Only voters registered within the party of the candidates running are eligible to vote on that contest.

As a reminder, by law, Florida is a closed primary state. Voters may only vote for candidates within their party of registration, therefore only registered republicans will be able to vote on the republican candidates and only registered democrats will be able to vote on the democratic candidates.
